STATION 4: Newsreels

• Watch the recent newscast that announces an unexpected discovery.

• Watch the historic newscast from 1945 and watch events as they unfolded.

• Answer these questions on your paper:

  • 1. Why do you think Cornelius Gerlitt hid all of that art?

    2. Why do you think the Allies put the recovered art on display for the soldiers to walk through and see?

    3. One of the newsreels states, “Not content with robbing people of their freedom and their lives, the Nazis tried to make off with their symbols of culture.”

       • What do you consider a symbol of your own culture?

       • What would you do if it was threatened by a foreign enemy?
